Gaunt Francis won the national architectural competition for the British Homes Awards ’House of the Future’, which was organised with the Mail on Sunday, Building Design and Real Estate TV.
The competition required the design of a zero carbon house aimed at the volume house building market, and as such was felt to be a good opportunity to demonstrate the practice’s practical, pragmatic approach to sustainable design.
Our winning design includes a blend of modern technology and well-proven design principles to resolve some of the issues of modern living in more sustainable fashion without compromising quality of life. The design is highly flexible to allow occupiers to make it their own home, whilst ensuring good quality space within the compact site plan requirements of the compeition brief.
The Gaunt Francis house is now to be built at the Building Research Establishment’s Garston site as a show home, and will be circulated to volume house builders around the country.
