Institute of Engineering and Technology

The institute of Engineering and Technology was formerly the Institute of Electrical Engineers, and their headquarters has been sat on the embankment site for the best part of the last 50 years.

This grand building, which faces the Thames on an important bend in the river, houses the institutions main administration departments and conference venue. Until recently the institutions staff worked out of an antiquated linked building (Savoy Hill House) on the northern half of this island site.

In 2002 Gaunt Francis secured a detailed planning consent for full redevelopment of Savoy Hill House in anticipation of all staff moving to a new HQ building in Stevenage. The institution have recently decided not to implement that consent but, instead, to consider a refurbishment of the existing building with a brief to design the most ecologically minded refurbishment possible.

A start on site is planned for summer 2008
