At our appointment, the 1970’s tower and podium development was half empty and seriously low in profile despite being the tallest office building in Wales. The associated podium block and public space which formed a significant part of a city centre block was a tired and abused backwater.
Our proposals for the podium block transformed low rental retail space into prime A3, recladding the entire podium to enhance its public image. The office tower was rebranded and refurbished throughout including new lifts and high performance solar glazing to provide quality office accommodation throughout the 23 office floors.
In conjunction with Cardiff County Council and neighbouring property owners, the public space redevelopment transformed the area and kick started the redevelopment of the adjacent roads. The office tower is now fully let and forms the headquarters of Admiral Insurance, whilst the two main A3 units provide some of the most popular and sought after A3 units in the Capital.
The project won the Lord Mayor’s Civic Award in both 1999 and 2000.
