The original mansion that occupied the site dated back to the start of the 19th Century, and over time was expanded with Presidents Hall, Pillar Hall and College Hall. However, following the vacation of the site by Brunel University in 2008 this locally listed building suffered water damage and fell into disrepair. The new Audley Retirement scheme will see communal facilities accommodated at ground level within Presidents Hall, with a Spa provided in Pillar Hall. 78 new flats will be accommodated in the upper floors of the existing buildings as well as in the ‘New Hall’, a sensitively designed new residential block.

The simple vertical articulation and carefully sized windows help the new block mirror the existing structure sympathetically, while extensive new landscaping will help enrich the immediate environment around the scheme and tie it to the beauty of Magna Carta Park.
